Job Description

The Department of Agriculture Internship Programme is designed for young graduates looking to gain hands-on experience in various agricultural fields. Interns will be exposed to different aspects of agricultural policy, research, administration, and rural development projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in agricultural research, policy development, and rural support initiatives.
  • Support administrative functions within different departmental units.
  • Conduct fieldwork, data collection, and analysis for agricultural projects.
  • Participate in sustainability, environmental, and food security programs.
  • Work with farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses on development projects.
  • Assist in developing and implementing agricultural education and awareness campaigns.
  • Engage with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and research institutions.
Requirements
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Age: Between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Must have a National Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in one of the following fields:
    • Agriculture or Agronomy
    • Environmental Science
    • Agricultural Economics
    • Animal Science or Veterinary Science
    • Food Science and Technology
    • Horticulture
    • Forestry
    • Rural Development
    • Supply Chain Management
    • Business Administration
    • Finance or Human Resources
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to work in rural areas and engage with farming communities.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team.
  • No prior formal work experience is required (entry-level internship).
