About the Programme
Transnet is offering a Train Assistant Trainee Internship Programme for 2025. This programme provides hands-on training for candidates to assist Train Drivers in operating locomotives and ensuring safe, efficient freight transportation.
Responsibilities
- Sign on duty and receive work assignments.
- Assist in administrative duties and locomotive preparation.
- Conduct brake tests and couple locomotives.
- Perform pre-trip inspections and safety checks.
- Assist in shunting, placing, and removing trucks as per work orders.
- Monitor train movement and report incidents.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Provide feedback and complete train journals.
Requirements
- Grade 12 with Pure Mathematics and/or Physical Science.
- Must pass medical fitness tests (vision, hearing, mental, and physical health).
- Minimum height requirement: 1.6m.
- Psychomotor ability test via Vienna Testing System (VTS standards).
- Physically fit and able to carry heavy objects.
- Must be willing to undergo and complete Train Assistant training (theoretical & practical).
