The South African Police Service (SAPS) is inviting young, dynamic, and dedicated South African citizens from all backgrounds to apply for the Police Trainee / Internship Programme 2026. Selected candidates will undergo a 21-month Basic Police Development Learning Programme (BPDLP) at a SAPS Academy. During this period, they will receive full training, a monthly stipend, and applicable benefits. Upon successful completion of the training, candidates will be permanently appointed as Constables within the SAPS.

As a SAPS Police Trainee, your responsibilities will include:
- Preventing and combating crime
- Conducting investigations
- Maintaining public order and safety
- Protecting the lives and property of citizens
- Upholding and enforcing the law across the Republic
To be considered, applicants must:
- Be a South African citizen (proof required)
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be medically, mentally, and physically fit (assessments will be conducted)
- Undergo a psychological integrity assessment
- Hold a Grade 12 certificate or equivalent
- Be proficient in English and at least one other official language
- Have no visible tattoos when in uniform
- Have no criminal record or pending cases
- Be willing to take an oath of office
- Be willing to serve anywhere in South Africa
- Submit biometric samples (fingerprints and DNA if required)
- Be willing to undergo vetting and security clearance
Although not mandatory, preference will be given to candidates who:
- Hold a valid driver's license (light motor vehicle)
- Have a relevant tertiary qualification (e.g., Criminal Law, Policing, Forensics – NQF level 6 or higher)
- Meet university entrance requirements (Bachelor’s, Diploma, or Higher Certificate)
To qualify for the fitness test, applicants must meet the following:
- BMI: ≤ 30
- Waist Circumference: ≤ 102 cm (males), ≤ 90 cm (females)
